Behind the Scenes of a Wedding Editorial Photo Shoot
Today I'm flashing back to a shoot that took place over two years ago, I came across the behind this scenes video yesterday and thought it would be cool to show you exactly what goes into a photo shoot on shoot day.
Most of my work actually takes place before shoot day, in the weeks leading up to the shoot I am working to put ideas together, create a story to fit the shoot theme or brand's identity, sourcing suppliers and bringing a team together that will create the look that is required.
On shoot day everyone is in action, from makeup artists to florists, with models and photographers under pressure to capture the hard work that everyone has put in.
My job on shoot day is three-fold, to co-ordinate suppliers, make sure everything runs to schedule (especially if the location is hired out at an hourly rate, your client doesn't want the shoot to run over!) and style anything that needs attention. This might be deciding what the models wear and co-ordinating accessories to creating a wedding table scape. A shoot can be as simple as deciding where the clients stationery designs will be captured best so that the designer gets great product imagery, to dressing 11 models and finding shoes to fit them all!
This shoot was what I would say is a medium amount of juggling, with 2 models to dress in two different looks, plus a wedding tablescape to set up. You can see myself and the wonderful Paula Rooney running around the table in the time-lapse section of the video, the life of a stylist is never sitting still! I hope you enjoy this taste of the day in the life of the stylist.
There is always something entertaining, from models climbing walls in 4 inch heels, to photographers climbing on people to get the desired shot. Perhaps I should video every shoot?
